Herbert Pulscher of Akron passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013, at his home in Akron, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Rev. Jean Morse of Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron will officiate. Burial with military rites conducted by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron will be in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. Visitation with the family present will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Herbert Harlow Pulscher was born October 13, 1932, in Alcester, South Dakota, to Marie (Anderson) and Otto Pulscher. He attended country school in South Dakota and later high school in Hawarden. He graduated from high school in Hawarden. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Following his discharge, he returned to Hawarden and worked in road construction.

He was united in marriage to Madonna Trobaugh on December 21, 1963. To this union, four children were born: David, Debra, Dawn, and Dennis. They later divorced.

After working in road construction, Herb went to work for Coilcraft Industries in Canton, SD and later in Hawarden. After 10 years, he returned to road construction. In 2012, Herb retired from Dobson Brothers Construction. He spent his last year enjoying gambling and fishing with his oldest son, David.

He was a member of the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron, where he enjoyed playing cards. He also enjoyed traveling and being with his children and grandchildren. His most memorable trip was to Hawaii in 2010, with Debbie, Dawn, and his granddaughter, Katy. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children, David of Le Mars, Iowa, Debbie Pulscher, Dawn (Jim) Schuerkamp, and Dennis Pulscher all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his grandchildren: Kayla and Katy Schuerkamp, Autumn, Matthew and Alex Pulscher all of Colorado Springs; and brothers: Harold Pulscher of Sioux City, Iowa, and Francis (Marilyn) Pulscher of Sheldon, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Gilbert, Clifford, Clarence, Alfred, and Merlin “Pooch”; and his sisters: Kathryn Watkins and Phyllis Pulscher.
