Allards take first, second at AAU state

Two local youth take top honors at the AAU Kids State Wrestling Championships in Des Moines on Feb. 23 – 24.

Eleven-year-old Adam Allard, an Akron-Westfield fifth grader, became a two-time state champion at the fifth and sixth grade 70 pounds Division of the Iowa AAU Kids State Championships.

Adam’s tournament summary, he pinned C. Furigson of Mingo, Iowa; pinned E.Stubbs of Luana, Iowa; won 13-0 decision over D. Meeker of Oakville, Iowa; won 8-1 over G. Gambrall from Iowa City and beat J. West of Indianola, 3-1 (first names not available).

Also, Arik Allard, a 7-year-old A-W first grader, wrestled in the Iowa AAU Super Pee Wee State Tournament on March 2.

Arik wrestled in the 48-pound bracket, a 32-man bracket and finished runner-up. Arik lost on the finals in overtime to Wyatt Hlasek, of the Hammering Hawks Club, 7-5.

Arik’s tournament summary was he beat Wyatt Penniston from DeWitt by pin; beat Carter West of Burlington by pin; and beat Gavin Hollenkamp of Boone by pin in the fourth match.
