West Sioux golfers are anxious to hit the green this Spring.

Girls’ Golf

Senior Courtney Hummel, a state golf qualifier and a First Team All-War Eagle Conference (WEC) golfer last year, returns with senior Bailey VanDenBerg, also a First Team All-WEC recipient last year.

“Our goal for Bailey is to get her to state,” said Klarenbeek. VanDenBerg was third at WEC meet last year.

Callie Peterson is a third senior on the six-member squad. Allyson Westra, Kada Finch and Taylor Pies are also on the team.

“We’re behind but everyone is in the same boat,” said Klarenbeek of the weather.

West Sioux finished in third place at its district meet. The Lady Falcons had a 6-4 dual meet record in the WEC.

Boys’ Golf

The West Sioux boys’ golf team has 15 members this spring. The Falcons were 3-7 in WEC duals last year.

West Sioux’s boys’ squad is led by senior Mitch Hulshof, who was Second Team All-State in Class 1A last summer and was All-WEC.

“Mitch was second in the War Eagle Conference in points. They say you can cut down on the strokes by chipping and putting, and Mitch has a solid all-around game,” said Klarenbeek.

The number of seniors are a strength on the team. Steve Marienau, Tyler Kelly and Augie Jimenez are also back.

“We’re shooting for a top three spot in the conference,” said Klarenbeek.

Also on the Falcons’ boys squad are Alex Waterman, Steve Marienau, Chris Park, Brian Lauters, Derek Benda, Andrew Renken, Augie Jimenez, Cody Chester, Tyler Kelly, Jace VanDenBerg, Kezden Blankenship, Jett Boyer and Jake Sanow.
