Lady Westerners have strong efforts at K-P meet

Girls’ track and field Coach Eric Walkingstick was pleased with the Lady Westerners’ effort in their first outdoor track meet, April 8 at Kingsley-Pierson’s Panther/Wildcat Relays.

The Lady Westerners’ 4×100-Meter Relay of Robyn Peinke, Jaclyn Smith, Katie Coyle and Katie Johnson finished in 56.67 seconds for third place behind Hinton and Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central.

The 800-Sprint Medley Relay of Robyn Peinke, Jordan Most, Johnson and Lexi Hageman placed fourth with a time of 2:15.55, behind Newell-Fonda, KP-WC, and South O’Brien.

The 4×100-Meter Shuttle Hurdle Relay of Trisha Frerichs, Alex Franker, Sydney Pridie and Taylor Myers was fourth in 1:29.20.

The 4×400-Meter Relay team of Sarah Schroeder, Trisha Frerichs, Taylor Myers and Chandra De-Rocher was sixth in 5:20.

Emily Miller gained a sixth-place finish in the High Jump with a leap of 4 feet 6 inches. Desi Oltmanns had a leap of 4 feet 4 inches for seventh place.

A-W had two girls place in the 10-Meter Hurdles. Alex Franker was ninth with a time of 20.77 seconds and Sydney Pridie was 10th with a time of 21.77.

The 4×200-Meter Relay finished fifth with a 2:04.37 from Most, Coyle, Johnson and Oltmanns.

Kayla Brovold placed 13th in the Shot Put with a throw of 25 feet 6.75 inches. Kelsey Jackson of the Westerners was 15th with a throw of 23 feet 11.25 inches.

Brie Moffatt was ninth in the Long Jump with an effort of 12 feet 0.50 inches. Sarah Schroeder of A-W was 10th with an effort of 11 feet 6 inches.

Final team scores showed A-W with 19 points for seventh place out of the eight girls’ teams.

“We’re making good progress. If we keep improving, we will have good success,” said Walkingstick.

Final girls’ meet team scores were Kingsley Pierson/Woodbury Central won the team title with 176 points; Hinton gained runner-up honors with 142 points; Newell-Fonda, 73; South O’Brien, 67; Remsen Union, 63; Westwood, 41; A-W, 19 and Spalding Catholic had eight.

A track and field meet at Sioux Center April 11 was cancelled.

A-W is at the Sergeant Bluff-Luton girls’ track and field meet at 4:30 p.m., April 18. It is at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s co-ed meet at 4:30 p.m. on April 19 in Hartley.
