On one of the rare Spring-like days this month, Akron-Westfield golfers take to the greens.
Akron-Westfield hosted Remsen Union in a boys’ golf match to start the 2013 season April 8 at the Akron Golf Course.
The Westerners were edged by the smallest of margins as the Rockets won, 178-181.
Cory Eskra shot a 41 for match medalist honors. Taylor James was next with a 45 followed by Dominick Foley and Tyler Waterbury, who both had 46s.
“Taylor and Cory are four-year golfers and have more knowledge of the game than our younger golfers do. That’s good for three to four strokes a match,” said A-W Coach Todd Colt. “But to be competitive, our boys need to shoot closer to 160.”
Lady Westerners beat Sergeant Bluff-Luton, 209-227.
Kayla Tindall shot a 46 to lead the Lady Westerners. Dana Hedlund had a 51, and Katie Black shot a 54.
“The girls played extremely well for the first meet of the year,” said Colt.
A dual against South O’Brien, which was originally scheduled for April 12, was rescheduled to May 6.
An April 13 Orange City golf tournament was cancelled.
The Akron-Westfield vs. West Sioux varsity girls and boys golf match was postponed from April 15 to April 24. It will be at Akron Golf Course.
