Dordt College hosted a track and field invitational on April 6 at Open Space Park in Sioux Center.
Katie Bonnema, a junior from Ireton, was part of a Women’s 4×800-Meter Relay team that finished first with a time of 9:49.65. Merissa Harkema, Lillie Koerner and Renee Buikema were the other members with Bonnema running the final leg.
Bonnema won the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 58.06.2, beating third place teammate Tara Postma’s 1:02.34.2.
Bonnema also ran in the Women’s 4×400 meter Relay for the champion Defenders’ team.Their time was 4:01.72.2. Sara Wilgenburg, Postma, Broersma joined Bonnema.
Bonnema, Defenders at Sioux City Relays
Dordt College women’s track and field team competed in the Sioux City Relays April 13 at Morningside College.
The day was highlighted for the Defenders by wins in the High Jump and 100-Meter Hurdles by Briana Vander Woude with performances of a height of 5-4.25 and 14.83 seconds, respectively. Vander Woude also claimed third in the Long Jump with a distance of 17 feet, 8 inches and fifth un the Javelin with a throw of 118-feet.
On Friday, Bonnema, a junior from Ireton, won the 400-Meters with a time of 58.6 seconds, edging Lauren Spranger of Northwestern College’s time of 1:01.08.
Dordt won the 4×400-Meter Relay with a time of 4:01.72 by Broersma, Postma, Siera Wilkenburg and Bonnema.
