A-W girls edge Gehlen on links; boys lose

Akron-Westfield girls’ golf squad edged Gehlen Catholic 223-228 in a War Eagle Conference match at Akron Golf Course.

The boys fell to the Jays.

“It’s so early in the year it’s hard to tell where you’re at individually or as a team,” said A-W Coach Todd Colt.

Girls’ Match

Kayla Tindall turned in the best A-W score as she shot a 52.

Next was Dana Hedlund with a 57. Sam Johnson and Katie Black both shot 58s for A-W. Chelby Minor rounded out the A-W ladies scores with a 63.

The Lady Jays’ Hannah Sitzman had a 50 score for match medalist honors.

Boys’ Match

The Westerners lost a close one to Gehlen Catholic Jays, 169-174.

Cory Eskra won the medalist honor for Akron-Westfield. He earned a par on the extra hole against Derek Bretey of the Jays at Akron Golf Course.

Taylor James was next for the Westerners with a 41, followed by Tavian Banks who scored a 48 and Kevin Carlson had a 48 for the A-W total of 174.

Non-counters were Jacob Neubrand with a 51, Wyatt Heyl had a 53, Chance Gant shot a 54 and Spencer Frankl shot a 55.

A-W will host West Sioux at 2:00 p.m. April 24 and is at Harrtley-Melvin-Sanborn in Hartley at 4:30 p.m. April 26 for War Eagle Conference matches.
