Sioux County deputies make arrests, cover accidents

On April 12 at 6:30 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident on 420th Street, seven miles southwest of Sioux Center.

Dawn McKee, 40 of Hawarden, was driving a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica westbound on 420th Street when she lost control of the vehicle, entered the south ditch and rolled. McKee reported minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene. She sought medical attention on her own.

Damage to the Chrysler is estimated at $10,000.

McKee was issued a citation for failure to maintain control. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sioux Center Fire Department and the Sioux Center Ambulance.

On April 13 at 9:30 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident on Iowa Highway 10, two miles north of Hawarden.

Jay Lyftogt, 61 of Orange City, was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima on Highway 10 when his vehicle struck a deer on the roadway.

No injuries were reported. The Nissan sustained about $7,000 in damages.

On April 22, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident on Iowa Highway 18, seven miles west of Rock Valley.

Hector Arana, 38 of Hawarden, was driving a 1996 Nissan Sentra when he lost control of the vehicle, entered the west ditch and rolled. Arana was cited for not having a driver’s license and no vehicle insurance.

Esmeralda Ibanez, 38 of Hawarden, the owner of the Nissan, was cited for permitting an unauthorized person to operate her vehicle.

No injuries were reported. The Nissan sustained about $8,000 in damage. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.

On April 22, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident on 390th Street, two miles west of Sioux Center.

Ronald Van Zee, 63 of Sioux Center, was driving a 2014 Peterbuilt semi-tractor pulling a loaded livestock trailer eastbound when he lost control of the vehicle, entered the south ditch and rolled.

No injuries were reported. The Peterbuilt sustained about $55,000 in damages. The trailer sustained an estimated $40,000 in damages. Six of the 45 cattle on the trailer died in the accident.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sioux Center Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol.

Arrests

Christopher Kruid, 25 of Hawarden, was arrested April 14. He was charged with failure to appear and four incidents of a probation violation.

Allen Mills, 33 of Hawarden, was charged with failure to comply after his arrest on April 23.

Derek Thomas, 27 of Hawarden, was charged with failure to comply after his arrest April 23.
