West Sioux girls’ soccer team lost a 4-0 match to Trinity Christian at home on May 10.
Trinity Christian, which will be a War Eagle Conference school this fall, led 2-0 at halftime and scored two second-half goals on a muddy surface but a warm night.
West Sioux had two shots on goal and three shots on goal by Jaylen Blankenship and Willa Sharpe repsectively. Carissa Anderson and Jenna Rehder had two shots. Linda Topete had one shot on goal.
Maribel Topete played in the goal box for the Lady Falcons and had 20 saves.
“Tonight was disappointing as we believed going into the match, we would be able to work hard as we did at the Storm Lake game (a penalty kick loss). We came out in the first half very flat – no energy. We ended up trying a different offensive play even though we hadn’t practiced it. I do believe with more time at practice, we could master it. Defense worked hard to keep the scores out but we struggled with getting the ball out of the middle and to the outside. The opponent left the middle wide open but we just couldn’t get a chance to control and drive it to the goal,” said West Sioux Co-Coach Tiffany Millikan.
The Lady Falcons’ record was 0-11 after the loss.
Also last week at home, the Lady Falcons honored seniors Anderson, Blankenship, Bronkhorst and Luci Topete on May 6 when they faced MOC-Floyd Valley. WS lost 10-0.
West Sioux will host Spencer at 5:00 p.m., May 16.
