On May 6, at 9:50 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest following a traffic stop at the intersection of Iowa Highway 75 and 470th Street in Maurice.
Arrested was Enrique Montanez, age 19, of Sioux City. Upon further investigation, the deputy determined that Montanez was in possession of illegal drugs and his driver’s license was suspended.
Montanez was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit assisted with the investigation.
In another incident:
On May 9, at 9:37 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident on Grant Avenue, three miles south of Sioux Center.
James Broomfield, age 50, of Hardwick, Minn., was driving a 1998 International semi-tractor pulling a Wilson livestock trailer with hogs northbound on Grant Avenue. He stopped and began backing when the trailer left the roadway, causing the semi-trailer and tractor to overturn.
No injuries were reported.
The semi-tractor and trailer sustained about $40,000 in damages. About 55 hogs died in the accident with an estimated value of $10,000.
