Sam Engleman, a junior shortstop from Hawarden, has completed her softball season at Buena Vista University.
The Beavers had a record of 14-21 overall. They lost to Luther College May 4, 9-0 in five innings, in the opening round of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (IAAC) tournament in Cedar Rapids.
Engleman had the team’s lone hit, a fifth inning double. She was 1-for-2 with one walk.
The Norse came out and scored five runs in the first inning, including a three-run home run. They added four more runs in the third inning. BVU pitcher Jenna Falline suffered the loss after being charged with five runs in only one-third inning of work.
Engleman, a West Sioux alumni, was the team leader in RBIs with 18. She had 46 total bases, which tied for first. She was fourth in slugging percentage, 0.474. She hit 0.341 with runners on base.
Engleman was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases.
She had a batting average of 0.281.
Engleman started all of the Beavers’ 35 games.
Engleman led the team in “taking one for the team” with six hit-by-pitch. She contributed six two-out RBIs, was 31-for-68 in advancing runners a base.
Engleman had four doubles, three triples and three home runs. Her trio of triples led the team. She was second in walks with 10.
Defensively she led the team with 92 assists, was fifth with 59 putouts.
In a recent game Engleman scored one of two sixth inning runs in a 4-2 BVU win over Loras on April 27. She reached base as she was hit by a pitch to start the inning and scored on a RBI single by Britney Kubik.
