Westerner golfers move on to Spencer

Akron-Westfield boys golf team earned the third and final spot to advance from the Hinton Class 1A Sectional on May 10 at Deer Run Golf Course in Hinton.

The Westerners shot a 345 team score to finish behind winner Hinton’s 336 and runner-up Woodbury Central’s 339.

The District Meet will be May 16 at Spencer Golf Course.

On a sun-splashed Friday, A-W senior Cory Eskra gained the sectional’s third spot overall when he beat Dustan Kneip in a playoff on a third hole with a par. It was the second time this week Eskra has won a playoff situation.

A-W individual scores were Eskra, 41 first nine holes, 41 second nine holes, 82; senior Taylor James, had a 42, 41, 83; sophomore Tavian Banks shot 44, 46, 90; senior Dominick Foley shot 45, 45, 90; and junior Alex Foley had 47, 48, 95.

Team scores after A-W were Gehlen Catholic of Le Mars, 351; Lawton-Bronson of Lawton, 361; Kingsley-Pierson of Kingsley, 413; Siouxland Community Christian of Sioux City, 464.

At Spencer Coach Todd Colt’s team will be aiming for a return trip to the State Class 1A Golf Meet which will be held May 24 – 25. The Class 1A State Meet will be at Lake Panorama National Resort in Panora.
