Mitch Hulshof shot an 82 at the Spencer District Golf meet to lead the West Sioux golfers to a sixth-place finish.

Hulshof, a senior, who qualified for the Class 1A state tournament last year, shot a 36 on the front nine and a 46 the second nine holes to place 14th overall.

Senior Steven Marienau shot a 39, 46 for an 85 for the 24th spot overall.

Freshman Porter Hummel shot a 44, 42, 86 for 27th place finish overall.

Senior Augie Jimenez made the top 30 with a 43, 44, 87 for 29th.

Senior Tyler Kelly shot a 48, 41, 89 for 39th and freshman Kezden Blankenship shot a 48, 48, 96 for 59th.

Overall, Head Coach Brad Klarenbeek was pleased with the Falcons’ efforts.

“Team wise we shot extremely well. It was one of our better rounds of the year. We had several low scores for nine holes but not for 18 holes,” said Klarenbeek. “Mitch was tied for first after the first nine holes. But he was disappointed he did not get to go back to state.”

Final team standings had Sibley-Ocheyedan and West Lyon qualifying for the state team competition with scores of 316 and 323, respectively. Bishop Garrigan of Algona was third with a 327, edging Woodbury Central of Moville’s 329. Akron-Westfield was fifth with a 337, and the Falcons shot a 340.

Hinton had a 442, followed by Remsen Union’s 344; Laurens-Marathon’s 347; Newell-Fonda, 351; North Iowa’s 366 and Graettinger-Terril’s, 380.
