Akron-Westfield senior Garrett Wall completed his high school career with an eighth place finish in the Class 1A 3,200-Meter Run at the Iowa Boys’ State Track and Field Meet.

Wall had a time of 10:15.37, which was his new personal best, set at the May 16 meet at Drake University’s stadium in Des Moines.

“He knew what he wanted to do running-wise. He’s a tough runner. He got boxed in early on but fought out of it. From fourth to ninth place, they were pretty close,” said A-W Head Coach Kent Johnson.

Wall was assigned the second lane.

Wall was making his third appearance at the state meet. In 2011 he placed 23rd and in 2012 Wall ran a time of 10:27.75 for 10th place.

“Being at state your nerves are a lot higher and there is great competition. Wall was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever had,” said Johnson.
