A-W golfer moves on to regional second round

Akron-Westfield had one girl advance to the Class 1A regional second round play May 20 at Brookside Golf Course in Kingsley.

Lady Westerners’ junior Dana Hedlund shot a score of 55 for the first round and improved that by 10 strokes to a 45 the second round for a 100 at the Gehlen Catholic first round regional meet.

She tied for fifth overall with Abigail Krienert of Gehlen Catholic at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars on May 13.

Other A-W scores were Kayla Tindall, 102; Kortney Hedlund, 110; Ryleigh Schnell, 124; and Katie Black and Jacynda Banks 128.

The Lady Westerners had a team score of 436 for third place in the six-team regional.

The Class 1A State Girls’ Golf Meet will be May 28 and 29 in Marshalltown.

Final regional first round team scores were Gehlen Catholic, 393; West Sioux, 398 and both moved on to regional final play May 20 in Kingsley; Akron-Westfield, 436; Boyden-Hull, 453; Central Lyon of Rock Rapids, 460; and Spalding Catholic of Granville, 512. George-Little Rock had two golfers. Remsen-St. Mary’s and Siouxland Christian of Sioux City had one golfer each.
