Unity Christian downs Falcons

Unity Christian used two big innings to get by West Sioux, 19-9, in a War Eagle Conference baseball game June 3 in Orange City.

The Falcons led 6-3 in the second inning. But then the Knights scored six runs in the third inning and eight in the fourth inning for a 17-8 lead. WS had a two-run fourth inning.

For the Falcons, freshman Kezden Blankenship was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, one double, one triple and three RBIs.

Jesus Rivera had two walks, scored two runs and had one stolen base.

Porter Hummel was 1-for-4 with one run scored, three RBIs and one stolen base.

Trevor Ericson had a 2-for-4 game with one run scored, two doubles, one RBI.

Justin Stoltenburg scored one run.

Justin Negaard was 1-for-2.

Mitch Schlumbohm scored one run and had a walk.

The Falcons had seven hits, two stolen bases and three walks.

The win was the first of the season for the Knights, who now have a 1-7 record.

Several local players are on the Knights’ team. Cody Gradert, of Ireton, was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double and three RBIs. Aaron Van Wyhe, a senior from Ireton who will play baseball and football this fall at Northwestern College, was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI, one stolen base and one walk.
