Sioux Center edged West Sioux softball team

West Sioux girls’ softball team battled unbeaten Sioux Center close in a Sheldon tournament game on June 1.

Sioux Center won 5-3 as all the game’s runs were scored in the first three innings. The Lady Falcons took a 3-2 lead but Sioux Center scored three runs in its third.

West Sioux was 2-6 overall record after the tournament.

Against Sioux Center

Jaylen Blankenship led the Lady Falcons’ offense with a 3-for-3 game with one run scored and one stolen base.

Bailey VanDenBerg was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one stolen base.

Rylee Negaard was 2-for-3 with one run, one double and two RBIs.

Carissa Anderson was 1-for-3 with one RBI and one stolen base.

Amanda Mace and Calena Topete were both 1-for-3.

The Lady Falcons had 11 hits for one of their better games of late against 7-0 record Sioux Center, one double and three stolen bases.

Courtney Hummel took the pitching loss for the Lady Falcons. She gave up seven hits and struck out one batter.

Against Sheldon

The host Sheldon Orabs and West Sioux battled for seven innings and were tied 5-5 in the final game of the tournament June 1.

The Lady Falcons tied the game with one fifth inning run and two runs in the sixth inning.

Sheldon and WS both scored one run in the eighth inning.

Sheldon then pushed across the winning run in the ninth inning to escape with the win, 7-6..

For the Lady Falcons, VanDenBerg was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, one double, one RBI.

Anderson was 2-for-4 one RBI.

Blankenship was 2-for-5 with one run scored and two doubles.

Mace was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.

Negaard was 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Calie Peterson was 1-for-4 with one run scored, one double and one stolen base.

Hummel scored one run.

Carly Dekkers pitched a complete game for the Lady Falcons. She allowed eight hits, five walks and struck out four.

Against G-LR/CL

Also at the Sheldon tournament, with games at George on May 31, the Lady Falcons lost to George-Little Rock/Central Lyon, 12-4.

VanDenBerg had a 3-for-4 game with one run scored, one double and one RBI.

Negaard was 2-for-3 with one run scored and two stolen bases.

Luci Topete had one RBI.

Jenna Rehder scored one run, had two stolen bases and two walks.

Mace was 1-for-3.

West Sioux took a 4-0 lead after its first two at-bats but G-L/CL out scored them, 12-0, the rest of the game.

Hummel pitched for five-and-two-thirds innings and took the loss and struck out four batters. Dekkers worked one-and-one-third innings and fanned two hitters. G-LR/CL had 24 hits.

Against

Boyden-Hull-Rock Valley

Boyden-Hull-Rock Valley used a six run fourth inning to beat the Lady Falcons, 7-1 on May 31.

VanDenBerg was 1-for-4. Blankenship was 1-for-2 with one stolen base; Negaard had a walk; Anderson was 1-for-3 with one double; Peterson was 2-for-3 with one run scored; Rehder had a walk; and Calena Topete was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

West Sioux had six hits and two walks.

Hummel took the loss in the pitching circle as she worked six innings with seven hits and three walks allowed and no strikeouts.

WS beat Unity

The Lady Falcons won their third game of the season with a 10-0 WEC win over Unity Christian June 3.

The West Sioux record was 3-6 after the win.

The Lady Falcons had an exciting win against South O’Brien, 8-7, in WEC play, June 5, for their fourth win of the season before taking on unbeaten Akron-Westfield June 6.
