Alma Hattie (Chytka) Dion, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away, June 14, 2013, at Sanford Care Center in Vermillion, South Dakota.
Visitation was Tuesday, June 18. Private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday at Cedar Church Cemetery in Lake Andes, SD. Condolences may be posted online to Kober Funeral Home of Elk Point is in charge of arrangements.
Alma Hattie Chytka was born March 16, 1919, to John P. and Bessie E. (Blazek) Chytka in Lake Andes, South Dakota. Alma had two sisters, Anna Gere and Polly Bell. She also had 5 brothers, Tom Chytka, John Chytka, Jerry Chytka, Fred Chytka, and Lawreance (Bud) Chytka.
Alma went to school in Lake Andes and graduated from the 8th grade. On December 19, 1937, Alma married John Ward Dion in Armour, South Dakota. They had five children, Delores, Donald, Anita, DeAnn and Marisa.
Alma had a love for gardening. She worked most of her life in green houses and in her yard. If anyone could grow anything, it was Alma. Alma was an amazing cook and love to bake for her family. Alma was a very strong woman with an amazing love for her family. (MWHF).
Alma is survived by her brother, Bud Chytka of Lyons, Oregon; her children, Donald (Alyce) Dion of Westfield, Iowa, Anita Schuft of Spearfish, South Dakota, DeAnn Peterson of Akron, and Marisa (Jim) Lulf of Elk Point, South Dakota, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, her daughter, Delores, 2 sisters, Anna and Polly, and her four brothers, Fred, Tom, John, and Jerry.
