Gordon was born Nov. 1, 1929, to Patrick and Agnes Boden in Akron, the middle of three children. He grew up hunting and playing high school sports. He eventually went on to earn his Bachelors Degree at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. It was also in college where he met the love of his life, Vicki Adams, whom he wed on July 21, 1950.

After graduation, he was hired by General Mills, thus beginning his long career in the food service industry. After several successful years at GM, he struck out on his own and partnered in a company by the name of Control Pak, the inventor of portion-size packs of condiments, which was soon purchased by Morton Salt. Gordon, always eager for a new challenge, then founded Topmost Foods and developed their flagship item, the “Zippe tamale.” While at the helm of Topmost, Gordon became the innovator of merging government commodity food contracts into the public school food service system. In 1974, at the top of his game, Topmost was sold to Standard Brands/Nabisco.

A few years later, Gordon founded Boden Food Sales. His son, Mike, joined his shortly thereafter, with sons Tom and Dana and daughter Carrie soon to follow. After his retirement in 1999, he enjoyed renovating houses with his son, J.P., for a few years until finally deciding to enjoy the rest of his life at home and travelling with his wife, Vicki.

Gordon is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Boden, and his son, Thomas Boden. He is survived by his wife, Vicki, his sister, Kay Small, his four sons and their spouses, Dana and Michelle Boden, Mike Boden, daughter-in-law Camille Boden, John and Kathy Boden, James Boden, and the apple of his eye, daughter Caroline Boden; his 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Boden-Darst, Craig Boden, Matt Boden, Tara and Stephanie Pokorney, Jeff and Kevin Boden, Amy Boden, Shannon Van Dam, Shaylin Sanders, Spencer and Andrew Boden; and great grandchildren Gavin and Georgia Darst and Chase and Ashlyn Van Dam.
