West Sioux’s baseball team lost an 8-2 decision to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in War Eagle Conference play July 3 in Hartley.
The Falcons’ record stood at 6-15.
The Hawks grabbed a 4-0 lead through two innings. West Sioux scored single runs in the second and third innings for a 4-2 deficit but the home team added four runs in their fourth inning.
The Falcons played Remsen-St. Mary’s at home July 8 in WEC action.
Game totals against HMS
For West Sioux Kezden Blankenship was 1-for-3.
Justin Stoltenburg was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one walk.
Tucker Vander Feen had one run scored and a double.
Braedon Petersen had one run scored.
Justin Negaard had one RBI.
Jett Boyer was 1-for-3.
Mitch Schlumbohm had one RBI.
The Falcons had five hits one stolen base.
On the pitching mound, Stoltenburg picthced for four and one-third innings. He gave up 13 hits, three walks and struck out two. Vander Feen worked for one and two-thirds innings, with one walk and one strikeout.
The Falcons, in the Class 1A playoffs at Le Mars Gehlen Catholic, battle state-ranked Hinton at 5:00 p.m., in the first round July 16 at Riverview Sports Complex.
West Sioux lost to Remsen-St. Mary’s 5-2 in a WEC game July 8.
“We just came out a little flat. Maybe we were thinking too much about districts,” said West Sioux Coach Brian Engleman.
It was the last home game for West Sioux’s lone senior, Petersen.
WS concluded the regular season with a 6-16 record.
