River Bandits are Bud Kemper Tourney champs

The West Sioux-Hawarden River Bandits had an undefeated tournament at the 45th Annual Bud Kemper baseball tourney in Ireton June 28 and 29.

The River Bandits beat Hull in the championship game, 8-2. Head coach was Scott Dekkers and Assistant coach was Jerod Lynott.

Fifth graders on the River Bandits were Ryan Ping, Austin Wilbert, Seth Salker and Kyler Bak. Sixth graders were Chase Ranchau, Chase Koopmans, Connor Koopmans, Drake Millikan and Trevor Schuller.

Wilbert hit a grand-slam home run in the title game.

Dekkers, Chase Koopmans, Ranchau and Dillon Lynott handled the pitching duties.

Connor Koopmans won the Top Hitter Award and Hunter Dekkers won the Most Valuable Player Award.

“We had a good group of kids,” said Coach Dekkers.

In earlier tournament games in Ireton, the River Bandits beat the Junior Knights 9-7; Boyden 10-0; and Sioux Center 8-3.
