Kayla Tindall winds up for the pitch against Remsen Union.

The Akron-Westfield girls took on the Remsen Union Rockets at home July 12 for the third round of state qualifying. The Westerners came out on top, 4-0.

Kayla Tindall took to the circle and fired a two hit shut-out while striking out 18 Rocket hitters.

A-W scored one run in the third to take the lead. RU, in their half of the third, mounted a threat as Lehner and Tentinger both singled to put runners on first and third with one out. Tindall struck out the next two Rocket hitters to end the threat. Tindall had a great run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings as she struck out eight in a row. She, in fact, struck out four in the fourth but the ball got away from Haley Coyle to let the runner on.

A-W put the game away in the fifth as Kortney Hedlund walked, Dana Hedlund got on by a fielder’s choice. Both advanced on a throwing error. Bailey Davis singled, and Haley Coyle hit a sharp single to score three runs.

With a 4-0 lead, Tindall then struck out four of the last six batters to secure the win for A-W.

Leading hitters for A-W were Jaclyn Smith, Dana Hedlund, and Haley Coyle, who each had two hits. A-W had a mild opportunity in the sixth as Jordan Hansen opened with a double but was left stranded.

A-W left eight runners on base.

RU came to play as they gave a good effort, however, don’t mess with the Westerners!

AW 0-0-1-0-3-0-0 = 4-9-1

RU 0-0-0-0-0-0-0 = 0-2-3
