Craig Parkinson and his son, Mike, were reunited on the football field as Lynnville-Sully Community School hosted an Alumni Football USA All-Star game recently.

The Parkinsons were part of the Lynnville-Sully Hawks squad that beat Montezuma, 28-12. Craig Parkinson, of Akron, coached the team and Mike Parkinson, the current Hawks football coach, was quarterback and was named team MVP.

“It was an honor to coach Mike,” said Craig, the former A-W Coach who led the Westerners to the State Championship in 2002.

Mike was 11-for-15 passing for 142 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 23 yards on eight carries.

It was not just high school players but players up to their 60s played.

Craig Parkinson said the whole experience was a lot of fun.

“It was a good game, well played and there were no injuries,” said Craig, adding it may be the last time he and Mike are on the same football team as coach and player.

Mike has a 17-6 record as head football coach for the Hawks and led the boys’ track and field team to a fourth place Class 1A finish.

Football practice begins for the Hawks on Aug. 12.
