WS softball sees season come to an end

West Sioux’s softball team saw its solid 12-win season come to a close with a 10-0 loss to Remsen Union in the second round of the Class 1A regional in Remsen July 10.

The Rockets scored eight runs in the third inning to put the win away in five minimum due to the “slaughter rule.” They advanced with a 15-8 record to face Akron-Westfield in the regional semifinals at A-W July 12. The Rockets’ win was propelled by 10 hits and two walks.

WS, 12-16 final record, had hits by seniors Jaylen Blankenship. Bailey VanDenBerg and Calie Peterson. Sophomore Rylee Negaard had a walk.

RU winning pitcher Kim Schroeder walked one and struck out eight Lady Falcons.

Senior Courtney Hummel took the loss in the circle for the Lady Falcons. She fanned two and walked two.

It was the final softball game for seniors third baseman Carissa Anderson, who will play volleyball at Iowa Lakes Community College this fall; first baseman Luci Topete; center fielder Blankenship; shortstop VanDenBerg and Hummel who will play golf at Northwestern College.

Game totals

Blankenship was 1-for-3.

VanDenBerg was 1-for-2.

Negaard had one walk.

Peterson was 1-for-2.

The Lady Falcons had three hits and one walk.
