Jacobs in final season for NWC volleyball

West Sioux alumnus Nicole Jacobs is in her senior season of volleyball at Northwestern College in Orange City.

Jacobs plays Defensive Specialist for the Red Raiders coached by Kyle VanDen Bosch.

In 2012 Jacobs played in 46 games, 17 matches and had 56 digs, averaging 1.2 digs per set; served 93 percent good with one ace; had 89 percent serve receive and played on the junior varsity team. She was a member of the junior varsity at NWC in 2010 and 2011. Her career best for digs was 10 against Dordt last year and she had one ace against Saint Mary of Kansas.

As a Lady Falcon Jacobs earned four letters in volleyball; earned second-team All-War Eagle Conference as a senior and honorable mention All-WEC as a junior.

Jacobs is a Biology-Health Professions Major and Chemistry Minor and a member of the Dean’s List.

Jacobs is the daughter of George and Becky Jacobs (now of the Omaha, Neb. area) and sister to Eric.


Northwestern College was picked to tie for first place with Midland University in the Great Plains Athletic Conference pre-season volleyball poll results that were announced Aug. 12.

The Red Raiders earned four first place votes and Midland had five first place votes as both schools finished with 86 points. Poll results were Doane, third with 78 points and one first-place vote; Dordt, 77 points; Hastings, 72 and one first-place vote; Nebraska Wesleyan, 56; Briar Cliff, 45; Morningside, 43; Concordia, 31; Mount Marty, 17; and Dakota Wesleyan, 14.

The Red Raiders finished the 2012 season with a 21-10 record, 10-6 in the GPAC and fell to Midland in the GPAC tournament quarterfinals.

NWC schedule

Northwestern will open the season at home at the Red Raider Classic Aug. 23 – 24.

Matches for the Red Raiders will be Aug. 23: 4:30 p.m., Dickinson State; Aug. 23, 8:30 p.m., Tabor (Kan.); Aug. 24: 11 a.m., Valley City State; 5 p.m., Baker (Kan.).
