Ernie Gabel of Akron gives a thumbs-up sign as he competes with his John Deere in the 7,700 lbs. Farm Division.

After being postponed a week, the Akron Tractor Pull drew a good crowd at Akron’s Business Park Aug. 17.

Thanks to the announcer, Denny O’Brien of Le Mars, one could also learn how each tractor was used in farm work.

“We had 134 entrants. We lost a few from last week but gained some new ones. The 11,700s and the 12,700s had the most entrants,” said Akron Tractor Pull organizer Kyle Hoffman.

“We had a lot of local competitors as well as a lot from Minnesota,” said Hoffman of the Aug. 17 event.

The Willers of Akron, Austin and Grayling, had three tractors entered and did pretty well, said Austin. “It’s more of a hobby for us.”.

“The duals at the end were what we had better participation in than we thought. We were there until about 8 p.m. We had good support. We hope to keep it going,” said Austin Willer.
