Akron residents need to be thinking of running for either the Akron City Council or the Akron Care Center Board of Trustees.

There are openings on both boards as some incumbents are not seeking reelection.

Nomination paperwork can be picked up at the Akron City Hall. Those seeking to run need to file their paperwork by 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19 with City Clerk Nicolle DeRocher.

Akron Council

Of the two Akron council seats open for the Nov. 5 city election, one incumbent isn’t seeking reelection and another isn’t sure about running.

Incumbent Chad Ericson, who is finishing his second four-year term, has decided not to run again and incumbent Sharon Frerichs is undecided as of Sunday night.

Care Center Trustees

The Akron Care Center Board of Trustees is about the same with two of the three incumbents choosing not to seek another term.

Incumbents Dan Rexwinkel and Iola Frerichs are not seeking reelection. However, incumbent Margaret Correia is and has filed her paperwork.

Also, filing for a seat on the Trustees is Karen Schroeder of Akron.

But that still leaves one vacancy to be filled in the election.
