Just a few weeks ago, she was looking forward to starting her sophomore year at Alcester-Hudson Community School. But the 15-year-old’s plans were temporarily sidelined this past June.

What seemed a simple case of tonsillitis for Ariyanna Miller of rural Hawarden (S.D.) turned out to be acute myeloid leukemia, a rare cancer in children. She is the daughter of Samantha and Loren Miller.

The Alcester-Hudson community has been hosting fundraisers for the Miller family this month to help the family with Ariyanna’s ongoing medical expenses.

This Saturday there will be a Hog Roast Meal & Benefit Auction, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Hudson Community Center. There will be a free will offering taken at the door for the meal. The silent auction will be from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. with a live auction at 7 p.m.

To donate items for the auction and more information on the fundraisers, call Tonya Rasmussen at 605-670-2591.

Lincoln County Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is providing matching funds.
