A-W spikers win 1 of 3 at tournament

Akron-Westfield’s volleyball team had a 1-2 tournament record at the George-Little Rock hosted tournament Sept. 17 in George.

The Lady Westerners beat Kingsley-Pierson, 2-0 to start the tournament then lost to George-Little Rock 2-1 and to Central Lyon of Rock Rapids 2-0. Matches were best-of-three sets to 21 points. A-W had a 3-3 record after the tournament.

“It’s still early in the season and there’s a lot of time left for growth. We played well in the second game against Central Lyon; we had an attitude adjustment,” said A-W co-coach Kami Kuhlmann.

In the first match, against Kingsley-Pierson A-W won 21-17, 21-11.

Bethany Eastman led in kills with three and had one block assist.

Jordan Hansen had 15 digs and was 1-of-2 serving.

Dana Hedlund had one kill, five assists, was 4-of-4 serving and had the team’s ace.

Kortney Hedlund had two digs and was 2-of-3 serving.

Desi Oltmanns had five digs.

Kayla Tindall contributed five digs and was 6-of-6 serving.

Kali Kriener had four digs.

Sarah Schroeder had three digs and was 2-of-2 serving.

Cali Westergard had one block assist.

A-W had six kills, five assists, 39 digs, two total blocks, was 17-of-19 serving, 0.895 percent, with one ace.

A-W lost to the George-Little Rock Mustangs. After a 21-15 win in the First Set, A-W lost 21-16, 15-9.

Schroeder led with five kills, had three total blocks, one dig and was 6-of-6 serving.

Westergard had four kills, one dig, three total blocks.

Tindall had three kills, seven digs, three total blocks, 6-of-6 serving.

Kortney Hedlund had three kills, led with 11 digs, and was 9-of-11 serving with three aces.

Dana Hedlund had two kills, led with 12 assists, had five digs, was 9-of-9 serving.

Hansen had 15 digs to lead the team as libero, and was 3-of-5 serving.

Eastman had two kills, one dig, three total blocks, 5-of-6 serving with one ace.

As a team A-W had 19 kills, 12 assists, 55 digs, 12 block assists, 38-of-43 serving for 0.848 percent and four aces.

Central Lyon of Rock Rapids ended the three-match tournament for the Lady Westerners and handed them a 21-10, 22-20 defeat.

Eastman led in kills with three, had one dig, was 4-of-6 serving.

Kortney Hedlund had two kills, five digs and 3-of-5 serving.

Dana Hedlund had one kill, eight assists, was 3-of-3 serving with one ace.

Hansen led the team with 16 digs and was 2-of-2 serving.

Oltmanns had eight digs.

Schroeder had one kill and was 2-of-3 serving.

Tindall had one kill, four digs, and was 8-of-9 serving with one ace.

Westergard had one kill and one assist.

A-W had nine kills, nine assists, 39 digs, 22-of-28 serving, 0.786 percent, with two aces.

A-W is at South O’Brien in Paullina Oct. 1; will host new War Eagle Conference school Trinity Christian of Hull Oct. 3 and is at West Sioux Oct. 8 in league matches that begin at 5:30 p.m. with the “C” match.
