Kurtis Hoffman prepares to hike the ball for the Westerners in the game against Hinton.

It was an absolutely beautiful fall evening which was a cool one temperature wise and the moon was shining brilliantly in the east. What a setting – and then the game started. The Westerners and the Blackhawks went toe to toe for the first quarter as the quarter closed at zero to zero. However, the game ended with Hinton winning 42-7.

Hinton totaled 417 yards of offense of which 293 was on the ground compared to 78 by A-W. It was a game where A-W was out hit and outrun by the Blackhawks. Over the years the A-W Hinton game has been a good rivalry but not this time.

Following an A-W punt to the Hinton 31, the Blackhawks used eight plays to cover 69 yards and hit paydirt. Two big plays were when Cole Johnston hit Terrill Henrich for 39 yards and then Austin Sitzman for 21. Johnston scored on a two yard run to give Hinton the lead. On their next postition, following an A-W punt to the Hinton 30, Eric Brown got outside and dashed 65 yards to score. Hinton led 14-0 at half and A-W was still in the game.

A-W kicked off to start the second half. Hinton started on their own 40 yard line. Joel Kirwan took the hand-off into the middle and ran 60 yards virtually untouched to put the game out of reach. Later in the third, Johnston scored on a nine yard run to control the third quarter as well as the second half.

Hinton mounted the score to 35-0 as Jay Small found Johnston open for a 9 yard touch.

Devon Myers had a good kick-off return to put the ball on the A-W 40. Chance Hoffman threw a strike to Nathan Sanchez to put A-W on the board midway in the fourth.

Hinton scored one more time late in the game to really salt it away at 42-7.

Defensively A-W sort of got shredded, but Cody Bosse, Kevin Carlson and Devon Meyers did their best to lead the team in tackles.
