West Sioux scored touchdowns early and late but West Lyon dominated the rest of the way in a 40-14 Class A, District No. 1 contest Sept. 20.
Falcons quarterback Jesus Rivera scored from 20 yards out with 5:25 left in the second quarter for the first Falcons’ score for a 12-7 deficit. Justin Negaard scored on a four-yard touchdown run with less than 30 seconds to go in the game for the final margin. Mario Topete added the two Point After Touchdown kicks.
“It was a good effort. I was pleased with how hard we played; West Lyon is ranked No. 1 in the state in Class A and is deserving of their ranking,” said West Sioux coach Ryan Schwiesow.
On Friday in Inwood Negaard had a solid game with 176 yards rushing in 22 carries for the visitors. He led the defense with 17 tackles and a fumble recovery.
Kyle Groeneweeg caught a 68-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Whalen for a 6-0 West Lyon lead; scored on a 12-yard run; Bennett Feuchtenberger scored on a one-yard run; Kaleb Hoyer scored on a two-yard run and a 23-yard run as West Lyon improved to 4-0 record, 2-0 district.
West Sioux (0-4, 0-2) will host its homecoming game with Big Sioux River area rival Akron-Westfield (3-1 record, 1-1 district) at 7 p.m. Sept. 27.
