The Dordt College women’s cross country team finished third out of 18 teams at the Woody Grenno Invitational held in Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 21. The Defenders totaled 78 points, finishing behind Nebraska-Kearney and Iowa Central with 50 and 53 points, respectively.
Lauren Opp was the first runner across the finish line for the Defenders with a time of 23:08 for seventh place. A pack of three runners was not far behind for Dordt as Abby De Vries, Kayla Byl and Jordyn Vischer were 13th, 14th and 15th. De Vries ran a 23:32; Byl a 23.22 and Vischer a 23.24 on the 6,000 meter course.
Kelsey Lewis was 30th in 24:11 for Dordt’s final points. Lillie Koemer and Renee Buikema provided the sixth and seventh place finishes with times of 24:24 and 24:28 for 37th and 43rd overall.
Katie Bonnema, a senior from Ireton, had a 24:36 for 45th place.
