West Sioux’s volleyball team returned to the .500 mark with a 3-1 win over Remsen- St. Mary’s in a home War Eagle Conference match Oct. 1.
The Lady Falcons improved to 10-10 record, 3-4 WEC matches, with a 25-16 win in the First Set; a 25-14 win in the Second Set; a 25-21 loss to the Lady Hawks in the Third Set and closed out the match with a 25-13 win in the Fourth Set.
“This was a great win for us. It placed us back at a .500 record in the conference. The girls did a great job adjusting to Remsen-St. Mary’s hitters. Rylee negaard had a great night leading in kills and digs. Shannon Jasper and Carly Dekkers did a great job in the middle. Jenna Rehder was fantastic at spreading out our offense and this allowed for Allyson Westra and Callie Schmidt to get some kills. Rehder also was a great defensive player. In the back row Calena Topete and Amanda Mace did a great job passing. Overall I was proud of the girls and their win,” said West Sioux Coach Laura Hensley.
It was a 13-13 standoff midway through the First Set but West Sioux gained a 21-15 lead on a kill by Jasper as part of a 12-3 run.
The Second Set was again a standoff midway through, 13-13, but the Lady Falcons gained a 20-14 lead on an ace serve by Schmidt and had an 11-1 run.
The Lady Hawks built up a 16-11 lead in the Third Set despite some kills by Negaard and Jasper. West Sioux rallied to a 24-20 deficit on a Dekkers kill but the Lady Hawks held on.
A 12-3 start to the Fourth Set meant the Lady Falcons were determined to win on this first dress in pink night. It was a 15-7 lead for the home team who cruised to the win. RSM fell to 4-18 record, 2-7 in league matches.
