The Akron-Westfield Westerners played host to the Generals of Sibley-Ocheyedan on Friday, Oct. 5.

After a delay of almost two hours, the game started at eight minutes before the hour of nine. This was due to tornadoes and lightning in the area. It was just a nasty, nasty evening but it came out fine for the Westerners, who won the Homecoming game, 20-7.

Cody Bosse, the reigning 2013 Homecoming king, had a definite crowning performance. Bosse had over 200 yards rushing plus led the team with 11 stops on defense.

Bosse was joined by Devon Myers, who chalked up over 100 yards on the ground. The running game overshadowed the fact that A-W had nine fumbles in the game and lost two.

Sibley-Ocheyedan drew first blood after a scoreless first quarter. SO used nine plays to cover 70 yards midway through the second quarter when Ethan Mino scored on a six-yard run to put the Generals in the lead.

A-W returned the favor by going 73 yards in nine plays. Myers scored on a one-yard run to put A-W on the board. Taylor Anderson added the extra point to tie it at seven. Both teams had chances to score in the first half but errors and mistakes killed both teams’ chances.

A-W took the lead late in the third quarter as Myers scored on a great run of 45 yards. Myers bounced off of two or three Generals as he showed great determination, and A-W started to take control of the game.

A-W’s final score came late in the game as Bosse had a run of 13 plus a 56 yard dash into the middle. He outran everyone to make the final score, 20-7 A-W.

A-W’s record now stands at 4-2 with Alta-Aurelia coming this Friday, Oct. 11.
