The fifth-ranked Class 1A Gehlen Catholic volleyball team proved to be too much for West Sioux in a 3-0 War Eagle Conference win Oct. 10 in Le Mars.
The Lady Jays won 25-10, 25-13 and 25-20. Gehlen Catholic was 17-10 with a 5-2 WEC record.
The Lady Falcons, 10-12 record, were 3-6 WEC after the loss.
For West Sioux, Shannon Jasper had six kills and Rylee Negaard three.
Jenna Rehder had five assists.
Negaard led in digs with 15, Calena Topete had 10, Callie Schmidt, seven, and Amanda Mace and Allyson Westra three each.
In solo blocks, Jasper had two and Westra had one. In block assists, Jasper had two, Rehder and Schmidt had one.
The Lady Falcons hosted South O’Brien Oct. 15 in WEC play for their annual match to support the Susan G. Komen organization cancer research funding. Last year $2,500 was raised.
It was also Senior Night — a chance to bid farewell to volleyball players Jasper, Brooke Klemme, Maribel Topete, and Carly Dekkers.
WS concluded league and regular season play at Trinity Christian of Hull Oct. 17.
The Lady Falcons host George-Little Rock at 7 p.m., Oct. 22 in the first round of the Class A Regional.
Dekkers had one kill, one dig, 10-of-13 serving with one ace.
Jasper had six kills and four total blocks.
Klemme had two assists and one dig.
Mace had three digs, and had 2-of-2 serving.
Negaard had three kills, one assist, 15 digs, and had 3-of-3 serving.
Rehder had one kill, five assists, two digs, one total block and was 1-of-2 serving.
Schmidt had one assist, seven digs, one total block, and 9-of-10 serving with two aces.
Calena Topete had 10 digs and 4-of-5 serving.
Maribel Topete had 7-of-7 serving.
Westra had one kill, three digs, and one total block.
The Lady Falcons had 12 kills, nine assists, 42 digs, seven total blocks, 36-of-42 serving, 0.857 percent and three aces.
