Briar Cliff’s Bret Van Muyden, a junior from Hawarden, was quarterback Kevin Van Egdom’s top receiver in a Great Plains Athletic Conference showdown with Northwestern Oct. 12.
Van Muyden, a West Sioux alumni, caught 12 passes for 140 yards and one touchdown catch of 10 yards with two minutes left. The Chargers fell to Northwestern, 24-17 at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.
Briar Cliff totaled 409 yards, led by Van Egdom, who completed 29-of-51 passes for 329 yards and
Northwestern’s Jessie Riley scored on a two-yard run for a 24-10 Red Raiders lead. Then came an on-side kick following Van Muyden’s score that NWC recovered. The NWC defense snared four turnovers out of the Chargers, including three interceptions and had three sacks.
BCU, 2-4 overall record and 2-3 in the GPAC, is at Dakota State in Madison, S.D., for a non-conference game at 1 p.m., Oct. 19. Northwestern 3-2, 2-2, will host No. 15 Concordia at 1 p.m. Oct. 19 in a GPAC game.
