The high school British Literature class taught by Mrs. Jodi Richey attended The Minnesota Renaissance Festival in Shakopee, Minnesota on September 28, 2013. Students in attendance were Erika Clark, Alec Heeren, Eliza Kjar, Maggi Liebetrau, Bobbi McGinnis, Mikayla Morey, Blanca Sanchez, and Katherine Soendergaard.
While there, students in attendance attended a jousting match, and saw different exhibits such as glass making, juggling, and paper making, watched plays, and shopped around at different stores. The students were able to get into character a little and try on different medieval clothing, as well. They were also given the opportunity to ride elephants, meet royal citizens, and learn what it’s really like to place yourself into the renaissance time period.
After returning from the festival, students made videos about their experiences at the festival and what they had learned.
“The Renaissance Festival was an educational experience that I would love to take advantage of every year. It provides an authentic remake of what life was like during that time period, and it allows our students to experience something they probably wouldn’t think of doing on their own,” said Mrs. Jodi Richey.
