Digital sign site making progress

The City of Hawarden has had a new digital sign since just after Big Sioux River Days.

This past summer crews were working on site preparation for the future Hawarden Chamber of Commerce Digital Sign at Central Avenue and Iowa Highway 10.

“The size of the stone is one foot around. It’s put in in four pieces,” said Brian Phelps, general manger for Jasper Stone Co., a division of L.G. Everist.

Daktronics Inc. of Brookings, S.D., worked on the wiring to allow for the message board on a 5 foot by 10-foot space.

The Chamber of Commerce received $20,000 in grants, from Sioux County Foundation and Hawarden Community Foundation for the digital sign as well as private donations, said Chamber Director Cathie Brown.

“It has been very well received. It is for not-for-profit organizations. We have a policy on the web site that is evolving,” said Brown.

Landscaping is not done yet but with the final look to be determined.

The sign’s message board has text 24 hours a day.

For more information or to have something on the sign call the Chamber of Commerce, 551-4433.
