Donn Philip Ryan of Westfield, Iowa, passed away Sunday November 10, 2013, with his family by his side. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 14, 4-8 p.m with family present 6-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Services will be Friday, Nov. 15, 10 a.m., all at Meyer Brothers Funeral Home, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City.
Donn was born August 24, 1930, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Philip Joseph and Gladys Pearl Ryan. He married Mary Jane Crawford October 31,1953.
Donn served in the Korean war as a Radar Specialist from 1951-1953. He worked at the Sioux City Postal Service and retired May 2, 1986. He and his wife, Mary farmed in rural Westfield since 1967.
He was an active bee keeper and member of Sioux Bee Honey Association. His hobbies were ballroom dancing, stearman aircraft and he was an avid reader of history and Louis L’Amour. Donn loved spending time on his farm, with his family, and traveling with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jane (Crawford) Ryan; four children, Diana (Darcy) Jacobson, Lauri (Elliot) Waddell, Sandra (Todd) Finzen and Kenneth (Molly) Ryan; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one sister, Gladene (Richard) Klienberg.
He was preceded in death by parents; one brother, Darrel Ryan; a son, Mark Allen Ryan; a daughter, Judy Ann Ryan; and a granddaughter, Sheri Jo Jacobson.
