Beresford woman killed in auto accident

A Beresford, S.D., woman was pronounced dead a the scene Friday evening after two minivans collided at the intersection of S.D. Highways 46 and 11, three miles north of Alcester at about 5:24 p.m.

Driver Jennifer Renae Weiland, 29 of Beresford was killed while driver Jessica Ann Ault, 30 of Centerville, S.D., received life-threatening injuries in the accident, according to a S.D. Highway Patrol report.

Weiland was westbound on S.D. Highway 46 driving a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander and Ault was driving a 2001 Ford Windstar northbound on S.D. Highway 11. The vehicles collided in the intersection and came to rest in the northwest ditch.

S.D. Highway 11 has a stop sign at that intersection but it is not known if Ault stopped, and no further information is available as of this time.

Weiland was wearing a seat belt but Ault was not and was thrown from her vehicle. Ault was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital.

The S.D. Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation of this accident. They were assisted by the Alcester Emergency Medical Service, Alcester Fire Department, Alcester Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Wass Funeral Home of Beresford is in charge of Weiland’s funeral arrangements. Her funeral was set for Nov. 20.
