Bernice Miller of Akron passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013, at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30 at Union Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron. Reverend Carla Nelson will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29 with a Prayer service at 6:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Visitation will resume from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Bernice E. Anderson was born January 9, 1928, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Elsie (Ericson) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at Union Creek Lutheran Church. She attended country school in Union County and later high school in Akron. She graduated from Akron High School in 1945.

Following her schooling, she went to work for L.G. Everist in Sioux City and later for the Akron Savings Bank in Akron.

She was united in marriage to Lloyd Miller on September 22, 1950, at Union Creek Lutheran Church. Lloyd and Bernice farmed in Union County, South Dakota. Bernice was a homemaker for her family. In 1986, they moved to Akron.

Bernice was a lifelong member of Union Creek Lutheran Church, having been active in the ladies aide for many years. Through the years, Bernice enjoyed bowling, golfing, dancing, playing cards, knitting, crafts, gardening, and traveling. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband of over 63 years, Lloyd of Akron; their children: Cathy (Butch) Moe of Sioux Falls, SD, Cindy (Bill) Brandom of Yorba Linda, CA, Kirk (Felicia) Miller of rural Akron; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elsie Anderson; and her sister, Lois Helseth.

Memorials can be made in Bernice’s name to the Akron Care Center Building Fund and/or Union Creek Lutheran Church.
