WS boys turn back A-H by 10

Sophomore sharpshooters Kezden Blankenship and Porter Hummel combined for 40 points as the West Sioux boys’ basketball team beat Alcester-Hudson, 65-55, Jan. 21.

Blankenship scored 21 points on 6-of-10 all field goal attempts and was a hot 5-of-8 from the three-point range. He added 4-of-5 from the free-throw line, and also had two rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Hummel had 19 points on 5-of-12 all field goal attempts, 2-of-5 from three-point range, and 7-of-9 at the free throw line. He added four steals, three rebounds and one assist.

Junior Devan Miller chipped in with eight points on 2-of-9 all field goal tries, 4-of-5 at the free-throw line and had six rebounds.

Justin Negaard led in rebounds with 10 and added four points, two free throws and three steals.

Mitch Schlumbohm had eight assists.

The Falcons had 12 steals and 11 assists on the night. WS was a strong 8-of-18 from three-point range and got to the foul line almost 30 times.

The Falcons led 18-11 after one quarter; the Cubs cut the lead to 34-29 at halftime; but West Sioux led 51-40 after three quarters.

With the win, the Falcons matched their win total of last year.

Trevor Ericson: 2 points, 1-of-2 all field goal attempts, and 0-of-1 three point field goal attempts.

WS team totals: 65 points, 20-of-46 all field goal attempts, 8-of-18 three-point field goal attempts, 17-of-27 free throw attempts, 27 rebounds, 11 assists, 12 steals and 2 blocked shots.
