Vincent Topf Johnson of Hawarden passed away with several loved ones at his side on Wednesday February 12, 2014, at the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 20 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Roger Linnan officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. A Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Condolences may be sent to

Vincent Topf Johnson was born August 26, 1934, in Chatsworth, Iowa, the son of Lloyd C. and Rose (Ludwigs) Johnson and the late Vincent Topf. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, later attending the Hawarden High School where he played football, graduating in 1953. He then went to mechanic school in Springfield, South Dakota and began working at Otis Radio.

Vincent started farming in 1955 when he married Kathleen Farley. They made their home in South Dakota and Hawarden. When Vince wasn’t farming, he worked on the construction of Highway 12 and Interstate 29, Swift Packing Plant in Sioux City and owned Standard Gas Station (’65-’67) in Hawarden. He then bought a semi-truck and his trucking career started as well as continuing to farm south of Hawarden and in South Dakota. He also worked for BT Trucking as a dispatcher. Vince later moved to Sioux City where he worked for a number of years for Midwest Continental Trucking as a trucker and dispatcher. He married Alene Keitges in 1983, where they lived in Sioux City and North Sioux City, South Dakota. For the last several years, Vince resided with his loving fiancée Vivian White in Hawarden. He worked as often as he could for Boyer Sand and Rock, Inc.

You would often see Vince playing cards, dancing, gardening, or working his mechanical skills on many things. He enjoyed camping, travelling, and fishing. He loved to travel to Hart Ranch and going to Skoon Skinners whenever he could make it. Vince also enjoyed shooting the bull with his friends and watching the Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by his children, Donna Johnson of Kapaa, Hawaii, Tim Johnson and wife Wanda of Akron, Iowa, Julie and husband Tom Rued of Neenah, Wisconsin, Diane and husband Dennis Smith of Akron, Iowa, Janice and husband Dan Ryan of Sioux City, Iowa, Mitch Johnson and wife Connie of New Baden, Illinois, and Victor Johnson of Sioux City; Iowa; grandchildren, Tony Johnson, Cory and Nicole Rued, Jerad, Justin, and Jaclyn Smith, Eric, Chad, and Katelyn Ryan, Erica and Zach Johnson; brother, James Johnson and wife Jean of Hawarden; fiancée, Vivian White and her caring child Ann and husband Jon Miller of Hawarden and her children, Kim Van Der Brink, Zach Shriver, and Toby Hartman; stepchildren and families, Marvin and Jane Keitges, Joe and Jenny Keitges, and Nancy and Toby Straight; several nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and extended families.

Vince was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Topf, Lloyd C. and Rose Johnson; brother, Joseph Johnson; grandparents, Ernest and Elizabeth Topf, William and Clara Ludwigs, and Ed and Alma Johnson; nephew, Alan Johnson; and a stepson, Paul Keitges.
