A-W youth wrestlers vie at AAU State

Akron-Westfield Youth Wrestling had three wins at the AAU State Tournament held in Des Moines March 1.

A.J. Nemesio, in “C” Grades Seventh-Eighth 105, won his first match by decision over Austin Beaver of West Liberty Wrestling Club, 4-3; in the second round he lost in sudden victory to Colton LaGrange of Hammering Hawks Wrestling Club, 7-5; he lost to Bryson Hervol of Waverly Area Wrestling Club by a pin in 3:43.

Damien Ericson, wrestling in C Seventh and Eighth Grade 130, won by pin over Dalton Teeters of Spartan Wrestling Club, in 2:27; he lost to Trevor Dooley of Martensdale-St. Mary’s, in a 6-2 decision; he lost to Jaedon Probasco of Monte Little Braves, in a pin in 3:45.

Other results for the Westerners included the following:

In A Third and Fourth Grade 50, Cael Morrow lost to Sawyer Callahan of DC Elite by a 6-0 decision; then lost to Zach Halverson of Beaver Creek, 2-0.

In A Third and Fourth Grade 70, Draven Kraft had the third A-W win. He lost to Drew Robinson of East Central Story Titans, by an 8-5 decision; beat Kale Munson of Ogden-Bulldog Elite by a 5-2 decision; and lost to Cooper Hanson of Southeast Polk, by a 14-2 major decision.

In A Third and Fourth Grade 89, Lane Kenny lost to Carter Andreasen of Audubon by a pin in 0:46; lost to Cade Bennethum of Ankeny Wrestling Club, in a pin in 0:57.

In A Third and Fourth Grade 90, Jonathon Watkins of A-W lost to Owen Huehnergarth of Dyersville Backman Wrestling C, by a pin in 1:44; and lost to Jack Clarahan of Savage Wrestling in a pin in 0:33.
