At about 3 p.m., Thursday, March 13, Akron firefighters were called to the Bob and Gloria Fletcher farm, 31535 Sargent Road, in rural Union County, S.D., to put out a fire.

About 100 bales of feedstock were lost, many fully-engulfed as firefighters arrived on the scene. A pickup truck parked close to the bales was also a total loss. The fire spread through some small farm equipment but it was a blessing the gusting wind was from the south as the fire spread north into a corn field and several buildings to the south escaped damage.
