At a special Akron-Westfield School Board meeting March 13, there was only one item of business on the agenda: expulsion of a student.
After more than an hour of deliberation in closed session, Board President Jim Black opened the meeting up to the public and made the following motion:
• “To accept the superintendent’s recommendation that the student who is the subject of this disciplinary hearing be expelled with support, whereby administration provides tutorial assistance off-site for successful completion of academic courses, from the attendance in the Akron-Westfield School and any school activities for a period of 12 months. Upon completion of the expulsion period, an application of readmission must be submitted and approved by the administration prior to readmission for the remainder of the next school year.
The written findings and conclusions which are consistent with the board’s deliberation will be prepared and the board president is authorized and directed to execute and the findings of fact and conclusion.”
Board Member Roger Oetken seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously, 5-0 with Board Members Jodi Thompson and Nick Schoenfelder absent.
