Akron-Westfield’s football season will begin Aug. 29 in non-district action at Hinton.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) released football schedules for 2014 and 2015 seasons March 7.
“It’s a little different. It’s always exciting when the schedules come out and coaches start to talk,” said Akron-Westfield Head Football Coach Eric Walkingstick.
New to the A-W schedule will be the second non-Class A, District No. 2 game, against Westwood, here, on Sept. 5.
The district games will be as follows for the Westerners (in 2015, sites are opposite of 2014):
Sept. 12: Woodbury Central, home.
Sept. 19: Gehlen Catholic, away.
Sept. 26: West Sioux, home.
Oct. 3: Sioux Central, away.
Oct. 10: Alta-Aurelia, home.
Oct. 17: Lawton-Bronson, away.
Oct. 24: South O’Brien, home.
Akron-Westfield will stay in Class A and be in District No. 2 along with West Sioux, Alta-Aurelia, Lawton-Bronson, and Woodbury Central, who are coming back from the old District No. 1 group. New to the district will be Sioux Central and Gehlen Catholic of Le Mars.
Moving up to Class 1A from the former district included West Lyon and Hinton.
“It’s a very well-balanced district with some very good quality teams. We’ll have our district meetings soon and the schedules will come out. It’s always good to have football information out there. Sioux Central and South O’Brien were kind of surprising but we knew about the rest,” said Walkingstick.
