Akron-Westfield golf teams got in a couple of practice days this week due to one day of 60 degrees and another of at least golf-friendly weather.

“But this may be the last day we’ll be outside for a couple of weeks. We’ll take advantage of it as it gets warmer,” said A-W Head Boys and Girls Golf Coach Todd Colt.

The Westerners gave good depth for both squads as a total of 30 are out for the team. Final rosters were not official as of press time.

“We’ll have good numbers for the future,” said Colt.

Senior Dana Hedlund is back after making the second round of the Class 1A regional last year. Other senior leaders are Kayla Tindall, Jacynda Banks, and Katie Black.

Alex Foley is the lone A-W senior on the boys’ squad. The Westerners finished third at the Hinton Sectional last year.

“We’re excited about getting the year started,” said Colt, who is assisted by Jon Harris.

A-W is hopeful for an on-time start April 7 at Gehlen Catholic but as Colt said, “Everyone is in the same boat.”
