At St. Patrick’s Fellowship Hall April 6 in Akron, a steady crowd enjoyed the Chicken Dinner catered by Central Catering of Hawarden.

Winners of the drawings were: Rich Huebner for the dresser made by Brad Loutsch; Sonny Lemon for the wooden replica tractor made by Darrell Toben; and Barb Heeren won the Samsung Tablet or $300 cash.

Birthday Celebration

Sybil Campbell of Akron was the star of the event as she was celebrating becoming 94 years young. Campbell and her daughter, Lorene Ruck of Le Mars, took in the event before an open house honoring Sybil.

The daughter of Amy and Jim Agnes, Sybil is an only child. Campbell married her husband Don Campbell, who died 42 years ago.

“I was a member of the Akron High School Class of 1936. There are three of us left. Then I went to work at Akron Hospital,” said Campbell. “I think I have baby-sat every kid in town.”

“Eat your carrots,” said Sybil of one secret of a long life.
