Patricia A. Carlson passed away Wednesday January 29, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A memorial service will be held in the future in San Antonio, Texas.
Patricia Ann Dirks was born on Dec. 17,1931, to J. Fred and Bernice Dirks (Baker) in Le Mars, Iowa. She grew up in Akron and loved sports, especially softball, where she played catcher. Her passion was writing poetry and she won a national contest while she was in high school. She attended the University of Denver and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota.
Patricia married Robert E. Carlson on May, 19, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron in a double ceremony with her brother John Dirks and Joy Sampson.
Pat and Bob lived and raised two sons in Colorado, Steffon and Kevin. She was employed as a medical technician in her early years and then assisted her husband in operating and managing his veterinary practice. More important to her than any job was her family; caring and spending time with them. She loved getting her sister and brothers together along with their children at any time of the year. They often vacationed together at Pat and Bob’s mountain cabin in Colorado.
Patricia is survived by two sons: Steffon and his wife Cindy of Shawnee, Kansas and Kevin of San Antonio, Texas, her brother John and his wife Joy of Akron, her brother Charles and his wife Jill, and her three grandsons Erik of Durango, Colo., Jeff of Denver, Colo. and Niklas of Shawnee, Kansas as well as several loved nieces and nephews.
Patricia is preceded in death by her husband Robert in April of 2002 and a sister Marian in January 2014.
